Stomatitis is a condition that inflamed and sores inside the mouth, can disrupt a person's ability to eat, talk, and sleep. Stomatitis can occur anywhere in the mouth, including the inside of the cheeks, gums, tongue, lips, and palate.


  • Swelling and redness inside the mouth or individual painful sores that can make it uncomfortable to eat
  • Mouth ulcers with a white or yellow layer and red base, usually inside the lips, cheek, or on the tongue
  • Red patches
  • A burning feeling in the mouth

The stomatitis is known as “Mukhpak” in Ayurveda. There are three biological elements present in our body; they are vata, pitta and kapha which can affect the body functions when imbalanced. Pitta is one among that gets aggravated and vitiation pitta leads to stomatitis.


  • Excess intake of pitta aggravating foods like spicy salty,sour,alkaline food
  • Emotional stress or lack of sleep
  • Lack of essential vitamins, especially B-12, zinc, folate, and iron
  • Constipation.
  • Oral unhygiene.


Treatment protocol aims at:

  1. Heal the painful sores and reduce burning sensation.
  2. Cool down the body and clear the body from vitiated doshas.
  3. Rejuvenating the body to prevent further attack .

The first line of treatment should always be avoiding the causative factors. If the problem persists then consider the following treatment protocol.

  • Heal mouth ulcers, cool down the body and reduce inflammation by using Yasthimadhu, Amalaki, Laghusootshekhar ras , Kamadudha, Sariva, Manjistha, Kamadudha. It will balance the body and digestion, heals and repair the body, and also helps to reduce the pain and provides nutrients essential to the body. Godanti helps to reduce both pain and burning sensation.
