Aprajita or Sankhupushpam*, botanical name Clitoria ternatea L. (CT) (Family: Fabaceae) commonly known as 'Butterfly pea' is largely treasured as a revitalizing herb used by Ayurvedic medical practitioners for almost 3000 years.
The herb has been mentioned in several Ayurvedic treatises including Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita. In addition to being a well-known antibacterial & anti inflammatory herb for centuries, it has also been used as an antidiabetic, antipyretic, analgesic, and antiemetic agent.
It's a controversial drug. Several Sanskrit synonyms of this herb are shared by other herbs also. Shankhapushpi is identified with Clitoria ternatea L .by scholars of south India Whereas eastern India, it is often considered as Canscora alata (Roth) Wall.
Many scholars accept the true identity of Sankhapushpi as Convolvulus prostratus Forssk.evolvulas alsinoides (L.) Lavandula bipinnata (Roth) kuntze also has shankhapushpi as a synonym.

Shankhpushpi improves memory and concentration levels due to its Medhya (improves intelligence) property.
