Ovarian cyst


Overview

Ovarian cyst is a solid or fluid-filled sac or pocket (cyst) within or on the surface of an ovary. In most cases, cysts are painless and cause no symptoms. It usually disappears in a few months but can also cause complications especially those that have rupture. Most women have cyst during her reproductive age.

Symptoms

Most ovarian cysts don't cause symptoms. Some includes

  1. Pelvic pain - a dull or sharp ache in the lower abdomen on the side of the cyst
  2. Fullness or heaviness in your abdomen
  3. Bloating
  4. In some cases, menstrual irregularities,
  5. Fever
  6. Irregular bowel movements can occur.
  7. pain during intercourse or
  8. Vomiting

 

Causes

  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Lack of exercise
  • Stress
  • Excessive intake of oily and fat rich food.
  • Hormonal problems. These also include taking the fertility drug clomiphene (Clomid).
  • In Pregnancy, sometimes the cyst that forms when you ovulate stays on your ovary throughout your pregnancy.
  • Endometriosis. This condition causes uterine endometrial cells to grow outside your uterus. Some of the tissue can attach to your ovary and form a growth.
  • A severe pelvic infection. If the infection spreads to the ovaries causing cysts.
  • A previous ovarian cyst. If you've had one, you're likely to develop more. 
    According to ayurveda there are three biological elements present in our body; vata, pitta, kapha which can affect the body functions when imbalanced. Due to unhealthy diet and  lifestyle, lack of exercise and excessive stress leading to accumulation of toxins(ama) in the body vitiating vata and kapha doshas, these vitiated doshas along with ama make  obstruction in the channels carrying menstrual blood resulting cyst (Kaphaja granthi).

Treatment

  3. Provide strength and stamina to the whole body.
  4. Rejuvenate the female reproductive system and support mental health.
