Candida is a fungus, a form of yeast that lives in your mouth and intestines in small amounts. Its job is to aid with digestion and nutrient absorption. However, when it is overproduced it breaks down the wall of the intestine and penetrates the bloodstream. This releases toxic byproducts into your body and causes leaky gut. It can also lead to many different health problems ranging from digestive issues to depression.

  5. Bloating.
  6. Difficulty in focusing and concentrating.
  7. Feeling tired and worn down or suffering from chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia .

Causes

  1. Eating food before the previous meal is digested.
  2. Untimely food habits
  3. Eating processed and fried food excessively
  4. Eating mindlessly, habits of eating too fast or too slow
  5. Incompatible food
  6. This will weaken the digestive fire and leads to weakened immunity.
  7. Those who are immuno-compromised like untreated diabetes (also leads to weakened immunity) .

According to Ayurveda, agni is the digestive fire of the body which is responsible for all the digestive processes that take place in our body.

Gut candida is caused due to the deranged digestive fire which results in the production of Ama or endotoxins that becomes lodged in the alimentary canal and migrates throughout the body. This results in weakened immunity. As Ama accumulates in the small and large intestines, it will putrefy and ferment there inhibiting the normal flora to proliferate and finally results in the change of normal intestinal flora and candida outgrowth.
