According to Ayurveda, there are three elements present in our body : vata pitta and kapha which should be in balance. Cystitis is caused by the aggravation of Pitta Dosha. Aggravated Pitta produces heat and toxins in the body. These accumulate in the urinary channels leading to bacterial growth in the system, resulting in Cystitis.

Causes

  • Bacterial infections

Predisposing factors

  • Having unprotected sex
  • Wiping the bottom from back to front after going to the toilet
  • Having a urinary catheter (a thin tube inserted into the urethra to drain the bladder)
  • Using a diaphragm for contraception
  • Chemical irritants, such as those in perfumed soap or bubble bath
  • Damage caused by a catheter or surgery on your bladder
  • Radiotherapy to your pelvis or treatment with certain chemotherapy medicines
  • Having had the menopause. The changes in the tissues of the vagina and urethra after menopause make it harder for them to defend against infection.

Treatment

Treatment protocol aims at:

  1. Treating inflammation and infection in the urinary tract.
  2. Prevent recurrence by healing and repairing the tissue
