Chlamydia


Overview

Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted disease. Chlamydia can infect both men and women but mostly common in young women. Many people who have chlamydia might not develop any symptoms, but they can still infect others through sexual contact. It causes bacterial infection in the genitals, rectum or throat, cervix in women and urethra in man. 

Symptoms

Chlamydia doesn't usually cause any symptoms. But some might experience the following symptoms:

In women

  • Abnormal vaginal discharge, which may have a strong smell
  • A burning sensation when urinating
  • Pain during intercourse

Symptoms in men

  • Discharge from your penis
  • A burning sensation when urinating
  • Burning or itching around the opening of your penis
  • Pain and swelling in one or both testicles (although this is less common)

Other symptoms

  • Conjunctivitis
  • Pus discharge near the anus 
  • Bleeding from the anus
  • Pain in the anus

Causes

 Caused by infection with the bacterium called Chlamydia trachomatis through,

  1. Multiple sexual partners
  2. Unprotected oral, anal, or vaginal sex with someone who has the infection.

According to Ayurveda, there are three biological elements present in our body : vata, pitta and kapha which should be in balance. Every infectious disease is caused due to imbalance of doshas. In Chlamydia, vata and pitta are the imbalanced doshas.

Treatment

Treatment protocol aims at:

  • Giving relief from abnormal discharge, pain and swelling in the reproductive area and  treating the inflammation of the genitals, urinary system, eye, anus occurred due to bacterial infection.
  • Prevent recurrence by healing and repairing the tissue.
  • Regular intake of supplements can help in long term relief and maintain a normal reproductive system. 
    Rejuvenating the reproductive system.

The first line of treatment should always be avoiding the causative factors. If the problem persists then consider the following treatment protocol:

  • Itching and discharge from penis/vagina, bleeding and pus discharge from anus - All these symptoms occur due to infection and inflammation by the bacteria. Nagakesara, lodhra are anti-microbial and stop excessive discharge.
  • Burning sensation - Guduchi, Sariva will normalise pitta, reduce infection and purify the blood.
  • Rejuvenate the reproductive system and help to restore its normal function with the help of Amalaki, Bibhitaki, Haritaki - These three are the powerful drugs which balance the vitiated doshas and control inflammation and infection. It cures itching and controls the smelly discharge.
