Cervical spondylitis

Overview

Cervical spondylosis is a common, age-related condition that affects the joints  and discs in the cervical spine, which is in the neck. It’s also known as cervical osteoarthritis or neck arthritis.

Symptoms

  • Stiff neck.
  • Neck pain.
  • Neck pain radiating to the back of head; shoulders; arms.
  • Tingling sensation of the hands and legs.
  • Numbness of the Hands and leg.
  • Lack of coordination.
  • Loss of bowel and bladder control in severe cases.

According to Ayurveda there are three elements present in our body: Vata, Pitta and Kapha which should be in balance. Cervical spondylosis is considered as Griva sandhigata vata, aggravation of vata dosha is the main cause of cervical diseases.

Causes

  • Dehydrated discs: With age, the discs that act as cushions between the vertebrae of your spine tend to dry out and shrink. This results in more bone on bone contact between the vertebrae, which can be painful.
  • Herniated discs: Aging can also impact the exterior of your spinal discs leading to cracks and bulging or herniated discs. Herniated discs can result in pain that radiates down the arm.
  • Bone spurs: Bone spurs are bone overgrowths that are the misguided efforts of the body to increase spine strength. The extra bone can pinch on the delicate areas of the spine and nerve roots causing pain.
  • Stiff ligaments
  • Work activity- Who carry loads on their heads, office employees who spend a long time sitting in front of their computers.
  • Smoking

  1. Relief from pain ,numbness and weakness
  2. Prevent progression of disease.
