The 16th biennial meeting of the International Society for Sexually Transmitted Diseases Research (ISSTDR) will be held July 10ñ13, 2005 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The meeting will be organised jointly by Dutch and Belgian STD researchers.

The International Union against Sexually Transmitted Infections (IUSTI) is the oldest international organisation in the field (founded in 1923) whose object is the achievement of international cooperation in the control of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV infection.

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are transmitted through close, intimate and sexual contact. More than 30 individual STDs have been identified. STDs were once known universally as venereal diseases (VD).

The ASHA mission is to stop sexually transmitted diseases and their harmful consequences to individuals, families and communities. ASHA accomplishes this mission by providing educational and prevention information about sexually transmitted diseases, including: AIDS, chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis, herpes, human papillomavirus(HPV), pelvic inflammatory disease(PID), syphilis, and vaginitis . ASHA delivers this information through hotlines, educational materials, grant funded programs, research and legislative advocacy. ASHA is dependent upon individuals that contribute and support ASHAs mission and work.
