MND has different names in different countries. Also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Lou Gherigís Disease or Maladie de Charcot, MND is a condition which relentlessly destroys the nerves that enable us to control all our movements while leaving the intellect and senses generally unaffected. The UKís MND Association was founded in 1979 to bring together all those people concerned with MND, including those living with the disease, their carers, and health and social care professionals.
